Joel first picked up a didjeridu in 1999. Upon executing its basic sounds, he fell in love with both the sound itself, and the feeling it gave him. He has been playing ever since.

Eventually, he began creating handcrafted didjeridu. On this sixteen year journey, he has gained extensive knowledge of the physics of the instrument. This information partnered with his knowledge of sound reinforcement and his master carpentry skills, allows Joel to craft beautiful Didges that are a joy to play and carry concert quality pitch with clear resonant tones that resonate throughout the body.

Joel’s goal is to educate people about this wonderful instrument and to plant the seeds so that others might explore their relationship with the didjeridu.

Additionally, Joel is introducing the sound of the didjeridu to new audiences by playing the instrument over the electronic dance music tracks that he writes and produces as a member of his group Tingari. Joel feels the ancient vibration of the didjeridu combined with the frequencies of modern electronic music creates a unique harmony that reaches people of all ages.

Joel has made didjeridu for children, musicians, healing practitioners and many others. Make sure to check out his workshop, How to Play the Didjeridu! at Rootwire 2016.

Workshop #1:  Learn to play Didjeridu!
Come share the vibration of the Earth’s Dreaming! This workshop will start with the basics of playing a Didgeridoo while offering people a chance to delve deeper into more advanced playing and the circular breathing techniques often associated with this instrument. We will also cover the instruments history, physics and how to find the right didgeridoo for YOU. All levels are welcome.
Practice didgeridoos will be available to use, or bring your own.

Joel will also be performing with Tingari on the late-night stage in the Ceremonial Center!
