Melissa Ayotte, ATR-BC

A lifelong artist since she was able to grasp a crayon, Melissa’s heART work for the past 25 years has been learning how to combine her passions for making art and helping others. Though her work has been shown in galleries in New York and Chicago and has won awards, she feels most ALIVE when making art with others. Her formal training includes Columbus College of Art & Design, a B.A. in Psychology from Ohio University and an M.A. in Art Therapy from Saint Mary of the Woods College. Additionally, she has over 15 years of experience helping others in mental health, education, and community settings. She is an original member and co-founder of Mother Artists at Work, a support group for mothers working in the arts. She developed KidzArtz, an art festival for kids to showcase and sell their artwork, an experience designed to expose kids to the handmade movement and reinforce the value of their creativity. She assisted in establishing a women’s artisan cooperative for women in Marquina, Bolivia where women earn income selling their artisan wares to Fair Trade distributors. She has had the pleasure of working in homeless outreach, education programs and in prisons bearing witness to other’s openings and to the healing powers of art. She believes all humans are creative whether the materials be paints and brushes, hair dye and scissors, pots and pans, or hammer and nails. We all have a drive to be impactful on our environment and want to arrange things according to our internal biorhythms. Acting on this drive is affirming on a spiritual level. The more we say “yes” to this calling, the more we strengthen our connection to our inner divine, bringing forth wisdom from our higher selves. This healing agent is inside each one of us and is no accident. It is a part of a system designed for self-healing, balance and spiritual evolution. Melissa is a Board Certified and Registered Art Therapist working in private practice at her home away from home, Painted Path Art Therapy, LLC.
