Nicholas Bolton, LPC

Soon after leaving the nest and endeavoring into the collegiate landscape in 2003, I grew frustrated with the corporate manufacturers of culture and the rigidity of academia. I also felt stuck and restricted within the confines of my own belief system. Not yet knowing what direction I wanted to steer, I persisted with many pathways of self-discovery in and out of the classroom.
In 2007, I experienced a sudden awakening while meditating under the stars in the hills of the Ohio woodlands. I became aware of the inter-relatedness, flux and relativity of all beings as I communed with the universe. This new sense of personal empowerment and inter-connectivity continues to inspire my research and artistic pursuits. Each day I am becoming more and more aware of the depth of my own creativity and learning how to more effectively use myself as an instrument of positive change.
These last 7 years I have spent working at a comprehensive community-based mental health and recovery agency working first hand with children, adults and families affected by severe mental illness, emotional distress or chemical dependency. This passion has fueled my further study into a graduate program for community counseling; where I am working to enter into the heart of the beast, the current medical paradigm, in order to find opportunities and pathways for holistic balance.
My workshops explore neurological techniques of meta-programming with the intention to inspire and support each person’s potential to self-heal. My vision is to co-create holistic health centers in local communities that embrace a multi-disciplinary and integrative approach to therapy and healing. With the foundational values of inter-dependence, mutuality and reciprocity we can learn to come together as empowered beings in symbiotic unity with all life.

Workshop #1: Practical Pathways Toward Valued Living
Cultural attitudes seem to be passed down inter-generationally and carry much momentum like flowing rivers etched into the Earth over time. Tides of corporate media compete for our attention and try to sell products, lifestyles and various ways to ‘save’ us from our own humanity and mortality through recipes of instant gratification and ungrounded stories of living ‘happily-ever-after.’ At times, the inertia of this societal river seems so strong and unyielding that without strong feelings about what we believe in, we are like a rudderless boat getting lost in the sauce and unable to take charge by initiating direction.
The aim of this workshop is to demystify the cultural mythos surrounding happiness and success that has been prominently streaming since each of us has emerged from the womb. Participants will be encouraged to activate their imaginative life, the life that springs forth from inside not from response to societal templates and commands. As we tune into our own source of integrity, autonomy and authority, we can find what electrifies and enlivens our own heart and awakens us deeper into a state of active presence and intentional living. The future does not belong to those who predict it; the future belongs to those who create it.
