The O.A.S.I.S. at Rootwire
(approximately 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily)
This year at Rootwire, integrate heart-opening and spirit-expanding festival experiences with a visit to the Open Art Studio for Integration of Spiritual awakenings (O.A.S.I.S.). Whether your expansion is joyous, brings up intense emotions, or old wounds surface to be healed, your own innate creativity can be your greatest asset. And yes…we all have it. Board certified and registered art therapist, Melissa Ayotte, ATR-BC, will hold sacred space to foster guided or self-directed creative exploration. She believes it is through the creative process that we honor the Divine within ourselves and strengthen our connection to our higher selves. Images come forth presenting messages using the non-verbal language of the heart. Art can go further and deeper than words, making tangible something that once seemed just out of reach.
The Open Art Integration Studio is a playful place. Festival-goers are invited to leave all judgments at the door and enter ready to engage their senses to explore how texture, color, movement, and scent can create changes in the physical and emotional bodies. Your ideas are welcome, and you will be supported in your creations. However, they are not required. Melissa can show you how to create your own “touch” stone painted in meditation and to be carried with you long after leaving Rootwire. Or, if a Spirit Doll excites your muse, Melissa can show you how to create one imbibed with hopes and dreams that are awakened at the festival. The entire Rootwire Community is invited to stop in and leave your mark on the community mural. This collaborative artwork will document the energy and attendance unique to our 2018 Rootwire experience and will be displayed at future Rootwire happenings.
Melissa, a lifelong artist, is an experienced guide on the creative journey. Recognizing the profound impact of art in her own trauma recovery, she longed to understand more deeply the relationship between art and the spiritual, emotional, and physical. She holds a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and serves individuals and groups through her private practice, Painted Path Art Therapy, LLC. She understands the importance of having a safe space when calling creativity forth as well as respecting the individual and trusting their process. She is passionate about facilitating community art and collaborative art experiences and has done so both at home and abroad; creating prayer flags and collaborative murals with communities for events celebrating themes promoting peace, Fair Trade, special needs advocacy, and calling an end to world violence against women. She assisted in the establishment of a fair trade artisan cooperative for women in Marquina, Bolivia, empowering them in the betterment of their families and community. She is honored to be a part of Rootwire 2018 and excited to share and learn from the Rootwire community. Aho!
The O.A.S.I.S. is FREE and open daily at approximately 2 p.m. to approximately 2 a.m. Please feel free to stop in and see what YOU can create and heal through art!
