I work primarily with elements of sacred geometry and nature. My intention with these pieces is to create 3 dimensional images which move and change depending on the light or absence of light. It may be hard to tell on the videos, but when the image goes dark there are layers of phosphorescent paint which glow in different colors and for different durations, anywhere from 5 minutes to 12 hours. One of the pieces that is pictured here has a full metatron's cube painted blue and green inside of the fruit of life which can not be seen unless in darkness. I make these paints myself, and that particular piece will glow in the dark for about 6 hours after being exposed to the UV LED's. My work has gone through a number of evolutions, but recently I am getting pretty good at creating images which mimic vivid hallucinations in the way they move and feel. I like my work today, but I feel as though I am still learning and building to something new.
I have a spiritual connection to my work on a few levels. First, I find the images to be beautiful in themselves, both in the geometry and the way that they move and flow from one shape to another. There is something beautiful about the image of the flower of life which connects with us on a deeper subconscious level. I first started using these images in my work as a means to personally explore sacred geometry, and quickly realized that the process itself of creating the geometry served to better inform me than most books or teachers. I install and vend my work in the underground and festival music scenes not only to make a living, but also because in the proper environment I have seen my work spiritually connect with others. I have always wanted to explain my views on the world and the nature of reality, my work has become a conduit for that conversation. My ideal situation as an artist includes open and loving people, good music, and an environment that promotes expansion of consciousness. I have always found Rootwire to have these things in abundance. I travel to a lot of shows in the midwest, last year I hit Electric Forest, AllGood, Hyperion, Lakes of Fire, Infrasound, WinterWarmer, Spring Awakening, and a number of small shows. But Rootwire has always impressed me as a transformational festival, and has honestly been one of my absolute favorites to attend. Visit Residual Glow Studios' Website |
