“Eyes Wide Shut - Yoga”
Similar to yoga, in life we are all experiencing the same turbulence, yet we each do it from our own level of conscious awareness and our own perception. This concept is no different in the physical realm. Our unique bodies take on the same yoga postures as our fellow practitioners, but the shapes we take on look so very different. Similarly. We filter thoughts, words, expressions, quotes, ideals and jokes through our own lenses and interpretations will vary. Remember that we do not see things as they are. We are mirrors and therefor see things as we are. Close your eyes and you may see things more clearly. Be silent and perhaps your soul will speak. Find stillness and move forward in harmonic rhythm with what is. In this class, Sherry will encourage you to close your eyes to move through a powerful ashtanga-vinyasa sequence. Not only will you attempt challenging poses with your eyes closed, but you will also truly turn inward with a one breath, one movement objective. You will be challenged to have your own experience. You will be pushed beyond limitations. Your boundaries will be tested. Laughter may even be induced in you, yes laughter, but don’t look to your neighbor to validate your giggles, your trepidation or even your failures. Yes, Look inward. The true task in this mindfulness practice is to have your own experience. Without the need to judge the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual happenings, who knows where your mind/body/spirit connection can go.
Sherry is one of this year's extremely talented teachers brought to Rootwire through Dharma House Columbus!
Sherry Hoff completed her yoga teacher training certificate with LifePower Yoga in April of 2014. Her lineage emphasizes Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow (breath guided movement) and Vipassana Meditation which are the basis for the pathways and modalities she teaches today. The foundation, Sherry says, is the most important part of the practice, which is why she still spends most of her teaching hours working with beginners and always keeps a strong focus on her roots. Having practiced for over three years underneath esteemed, Brian Kest, Sherry incorporates the deep healing aspects of her yoga practice in her teachings. This west coast style of Power Yoga that was formed through the alchemy of eastern Ashtanga Yoga and its healing benevolence coupled with Kest’s drive to create the first ever donation based yoga in America is truly an empowering practice.
Sherry’s teachings are about breaking down limitations and habits so that we can step off of our mats feeling lighter and closer to our higher power resonance. This is a true practice of consciousness and awakening and it is not about what you will gain, but what you will let go. Release fear, step into your personal power and walk a path of enlightenment. You are your greatest teacher. Prepare to be empowered, uplifted and inspired; prepare for change and growth.
